Re: need opinions on mixed grove
Foxd, I have to confess that Im not 100% positive of the cultivar. The pot was labled "black bamboo" when I got it. Guess I just assumed. Do you see otherwise? But yes the culms with the black near the base are the keepers. As for watering, twice this year, and that was just because the ho...

Re: need opinions on mixed grove
Thanks everyone. I think I'll avoid the herbicide and just cut the culms down repeatedly. May take several times, but not
much else I can do.

need opinions on mixed grove
Ive got a small grove (20'x20') of nigra and alata. Im thinking of trying to completely get rid of the alata. Is continually cutting down the alata culms on a yearly basis my only option. I now regret having mixed the two together, but to late now, live and learn I guess. You can get a better idea o...

Re: Boo Shoots for 2010
Alan, thats some scrap sheet metal I used as a temporary border. The idea was that I would not walk, mow, or do anything inside that border until after they sent up shoots. I didnt really know anything about growing this stuff at the time, except that shoots would probably appear quite aways from th...

Yeah I would have separated them if I knew then what I know now. Oh well, Im just letting them do their thing now...

Re: cold hardy palms
Has anyone in cooler climates grown this plant with success? I grow windmill, pindo, needle, and med. fan palm. They have seen temps. of 10 degrees for a brief while with very little noticable damage. Although I did wrap a string of christmas lights around the pindo. The others are left to fend for...

Re: Take a look at this, please
There are thornless varieties of honey locust, and the leaf arrangement is similar to the picture.
This plant looks similar as well, rhus lanceolata (prairie sumac). Although its normally found west of the mississippi river.
