Foxd, thats strange because this has been one of the driest summers we've had in years. Im talkin bone dry. Just look at my grass (weeds) in the last pics I posted. Thats not normal.

Just a quick comparison after a couple years of growth. First picture is from when they were planted in fall 2008. The next 2 pics were taken today. Its a mixed grove of alata and nigra. Yeah I would have separated them if I knew then what I know now. Oh well, Im just letting them do their thing now...

Has anyone in cooler climates grown this plant with success? I grow windmill, pindo, needle, and med. fan palm. Heres some arundinaria I came across while walking the swamp this morning.

There are thornless varieties of honey locust, and the leaf arrangement is similar to the picture.

This plant looks similar as well, rhus lanceolata (prairie sumac). Although its normally found west of the mississippi river.
