Thanks for the suggestions. I'm looking for the technical aspects of dividing bamboo, times of the year where there is most work, expenses for the nursery, etc.
Would Daphne's book satisfy most of that?

Best Bamboo Nursery Book?
Hey All,
Recently, I have gotten an urge to start a bamboo nursery. I have rudimentary knowledge but I would like to know if there is a gold standard book written already?

Re: Oxytenanthera abyssinica bizarreness?
So the real question is, let's assume that plant is a goner over the next year or so with maybe some seeds from it. Do you think the one next to it, from a different seed, will most likely suffer the same fate? I always thought the genetic makeup of the seed was unique.

Oxytenanthera abyssinica bizarreness?
so, long story short, my friend germinated and planted Oxytenanthera abyssinica seeds 4 years ago. Two plants survived and new shoots are still emerging.
However, I went to visit yesterday and I saw something BIZARRE. On one of the plants, I saw this!

Re: Large henon transport attempt
awesome pic!
ok, next line of questioning:
once I get it INTO the ground, say this month, what do I need to do? stake it, obviously. who is in favor of mulching? or time release fertilizer? or just organic compost? I am not at the land often so watering it daily would be a challenge.

Large henon transport attempt
hey all. I found a great Henon grove that the owner wants gone. I have about 20 acres I wanted to move this grove into at about 20x20' spacing. I was thinking about renting an excavator ($200/day) and basically digging up large sections and putting on a trailer, topping, wrapping, then transporting,...

Re: Boiling Bamboo?
jd, what solution do you think is used? just water? water and lime? salt? Just trying to "stabilize" the piece of bamboo (one node in-tact, -not- drilled out). Think of a flower vase made from bamboo. What is happening is: dry bamboo to a MC of 8% over several weeks -> in Mississippi clima...

No bending in this project. Just trying to "stabilize" the piece of bamboo (one node in-tact, -not- drilled out). Think of a flower vase made from bamboo. What is happening is: dry bamboo to a MC of 8% over several weeks -> in Mississippi climate it comes back to around 20% MC -> then it s...

Boiling Bamboo?
Anyone have any research/links/experience on this topic?
I am making something similar in size to flutes. And the bamboo is cracking in dry climates.
I am curious if this would help stabilize the bamboo from cracking in the future if I do this?
