Re: Phyllostachys arcana 'Luteosulcata' Very pale Variegation
I wrote an update about the culm color: https://cold-hardy.com/culm-color-of-variegated-phyllostachys-arcana-seedlings/ It seems that one of the seedlings tend to have greener sulcus on yellowish culm and the other one is randomly variegated. They are all darker green on the bottom part of the culm ...

Re: Not AGAIN! Phyllostacys Nigra flowering again.
Perhaps in the end, there are enough seeds after all. Birds and rodents have a hard time searching for seeds, because there are almost none among the empty seed husks. That way bamboo plant can prolong the flowering because it needs much less nutrients if it doesn't go all-in into seed production. P...

Re: Not AGAIN! Phyllostacys Nigra flowering again.
Are the seeds more viable than in the beginning when there were only empty husks? Perhaps this year, the seeds will start forming.. even in their natural habitat, they fear whole groves will just die off without re-seeding. Hopefully they don't go all out and recover after the flowering. I would lov...

Re: Lama Temple
Sorry to wake the topic from the dead. I was just reading old stuff and wanted to write a follow-up on the topic. Well so I bought Phyllostachys aureosulcata 'Spectabilis Lama temple'. No number with it, I checked my prehistoric emails from eBay store where I bought it. So let's go to the announced ...

Re: Bamboo mites
Torrential rains this year, occasionally 3 days long, made the population of mites drop dramatically. I hope they won't be able to recover

Re: Bamboo mites
Here, winters are too harsh for commertial predatory mites to survive. I hope local predators start devouring them soon. This year there are hardly any.

Re: Bamboo mites
Sorry to hear that. Bamboo mites are really nasty. They came the same way to my bamboo, most likely flew in with the birds, or possibly surfed on the wind. Some years, bamboos can look ratty and mite infestation is terrible with visibly worn out leaves. They like dry weather and don't thrive if the ...

Re: Unknown Bamboo ID
I intend to go there and check the.new.shoots or ask others to gather photos for me. It might be the only way to tell for sure. -5C could be, it's close to the coast and has a mild mediterranean climate. It can go down to -10C for a short time, but it is usually warmer. There are culms missing, a lo...

Re: Unknown Bamboo ID
It is like 200 years old villa with a very large garden. The owner was traveling around the world and brought all kinds of exotic plants back home. Some of the plants were brought there later by neighbors and new property owners. Exotic or not, all options are opened I guess. Any Phyllostachys would...

Unknown Bamboo ID
I have visited a previously abandoned garden that is now being taken care of again. It got completely overgrown , there are 3 different species of bamboo and quite a collection of various trees, bushes and plants. I'm trying to figure out what bamboo this is... Bamboo seems to be an opened clumper, ...

Re: Phyllostachys arcana 'Luteosulcata' Very pale Variegation
Mites are everywhere, I my bamboos have got them from birds that visit the canopy, because I haven't bought any bamboo especially not infected with bamboo mites. It is interesting that Spectabilis on contrary, has almost no mites on it. It was heavily infected a few years ago. I hope there is some s...

It seems that culms of one of the seedlings are very variegated. They are yellow with green sulcus and random dark green striping.

Re: Is everyone’s Phyllostachys Nigra Flowering?
Fredgpops, one of Phyllostachys nigra 'Henon' sprouted and is now in a pot. It hardly shot this spring, I hope it grows next year. It is just a regular green bamboo though, no special features yet.
None of other seeds germinated.
