I remember seeing someone post a pic of the Boo they received by mail order. I think it was bare root. I was wondering how the transition went.
Anyone else have an experience of bare root mail order you can share?
Thanks

High Nitrogen Monthly Fertiler VS Time Released
Can you spell out your fertilization program and why this is your preferred method? Please indicate if you’re growing running or clumping.

Re: Alabama Gulf Coast - clumping bamboo
'I have not measured them, but they are still gaining size quickly.' Hi Glen, I'm looking forward to seeing them after 5 years. It's encouraging to hear your 4 yr olds are still showing signs that they're not done yet. I'm going to try and make a trip to Disney's Animal Kingdom next month (dep...

Re: Alabama Gulf Coast - clumping bamboo
Good Morning Glen Happy New Year! Like Doug, I've also visited Kanapaha Gardens in Gainesville Fl. my alma mater UF; Go Gators! Let me start with the differences below ground. I've divided both of these plants in pot for two seasons now and there is a noticeable difference in how aggressive the root...

China Demands Bamboo be a part of Climate Change
With the recent Farm Bill legalizing Hemp, there will be many new processors of Bio-Mass emerge for this fibrous plant. I'm curious if the USA is on the cusp of reducing or eliminating the need for deforestation by promoting the need for Bamboo. I believe many would grow Bamboo for the Gov't Carbon ...

Re: Chip/Shred fresh cut bamboo Phyllostachys type
Finally I bought a Sun Joe CJ603E to chip/shred bamboo. It works for both fresh and dry bamboo although dry ones work better. At least I don't have to cut it into pieces if it is within 1.5 inch in diameter. It turns bamboo into mulch. So far so good. I made a youtube video here: https://www.youtub...

Re: Alabama Gulf Coast - clumping bamboo
Hi Doug, I have Kanapaha that originated from Robert as Brad mentioned as a source. I specify that because I've seen some folks representing Emerald as Kanapaha and there is a definite difference. I have both species that just finished their 3rd growing season in my yard. If you're interested, I hav...

Re: Growing bamboo in fabric pots? Lako help.
Thanks Glen, Good thoughts. I will take your advise and fertilize in the Spring. The Graceful that shot out enormous amounts of small shoots is looking great. I probably cut out about 25% of the new shoots as it was just too concentrated with puny culm size. The ones that I left are reaching about 1...

Re: Growing bamboo in fabric pots? Lako help.
One more thing on this Lako species, as far as I know the cold tolerance is 27 degrees and suitable for climate zone 9B or warmer. It seems I've read it struggles to survive anything north of Orlando Fl. HOWEVER, I do appreciate testing the climate zones to determine if this beautiful plant would be...

Re: Growing bamboo in fabric pots? Lako help.
I cut back on fertilizer going into winter - I'll hit it with some this afternoon - maybe that's the issue - tons of water would have diluted whatever fertilizer it had (mostly composted manure) right? I did not plan to fertilize my in ground plants again until shooting season (June-Oct). I gave th...

Re: B. tuldoides cv swollen Internode - Cool Buddha
Hi Mike, I have one in the ground and five in seven gallon pots. I can see the bellies swelling, but I too am hoping for more once they begin to mature. My plants were purchased last November in 3 gal pots. I bought 4 plants, put one in the ground, lost one to the winter (I'm assuming) and divided t...

Re: Tropical Storm/Hurricane Gordon Damage
I ended up getting the chainsaw out and sawed it off to about 4 foot high and tipped backed into the hole. This really hurt my feelings and hope this is not something I can look forward to in the future.

Tropical Storm/Hurricane Gordon Damage
Hi Folks, So I got the typical culm break on the new shoots, but this time I had a 2 1/2 yr old Kanapaha that is about 25' tall tip over. It will be easy enough to tip back upright, but I'm concerned with the least amount of wind I would find it back on the ground again. Of course I could give it a ...
