RE: 100 mile diet...

Mantis, If she hasn't read it yet, you should buy her the new Barbara Kingsolver book. http://animalvegetablemiracle.org/ I just finished it, and it's pretty interesting. It's a bit motivational, but it also lets you know just how much work goes into a diet like this. It's actually a real page turne...

Next oddball guess.

RE: Dean, Dean, GO AWay...

Drat, that new GFDL would put me right on the dirty side. Turn your head for an hour and everything changes! Now a cat 4. Eek! I guess for Boonut's sake maybe now we should root for as far south as possible. Mike, we left Houston ahead of Rita too, spent a whole day packing and moving a mill...

RE: Dean, Dean, GO AWay...

I neglected to mention that I would really rather the storm slow to nothing and hurt no one. I have no gripes with any of the fine folks in Louisiana... :)

RE: Dean, Dean, GO AWay...

I think we texans have to root for the accuracy of the GFDL model. http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/at200704_model.html#a_topad It is clearly divergent, apparently because the models are reacting differently to an upper level low expected over the Gulf early next week. Statistically, th...

RE: Rain, Rain GO AWAY!!!

Well, we ended up with about 4.5 inches yesterday. So now the ground is quite saturated, although my neighboorhood was not flooded in for long. I've taught my 2 year old to sing "Dean, Dean go away"

RE: Rain, Rain GO AWAY!!!

Well...it's back! :( We've actually had a totally dry week, so i guess that's why my forecast is totally rainy for the next 7 days. There are some rain bands from Erin on the radar already... Boonut, it looks like it's headed straight for you. I hope your farm will escape big flooding tomorrow.

RE: What type to plant..Total Novice

Also, they're all going to shed a good bit. They are evergreen, but in early spring they lose about a third of their leaves each year. I've got some fairly close to a pool, and I do empty the skimmers almost every day because there are some leaves or other bamboo bits (very scientific description I ...

RE: Planting Large leaf bamboos from pots

I put a 15 gal D. hamiltonii in the ground this spring with no problem, no leaf drop. It's not on your list, so maybe it's not so susceptible, but it does have large leaves. It had been in a clay pot for about a year in full sun, then I planted it in my nasty clay soil (slightly amended w/ compost) ...

RE: And it's raining again.

We got over an inch today in about 90 minutes! The bamboo are still happy, but I'm losing patience & so is my 2 year old. I can't remember a July this rainy.

I'm also pretty tired of hearing said 2 year old sing "rain rain go away" ad infinitum.

RE: Amaroo Tree Boxes

Allen, I definitely need to make it to a meeting, I joined TBS about a year ago and never actually have made it. I went to the festival in Austin last year, and bought some lovely boo there, but that's the extent of my contact with fellow boo lovers. We're excited to work on a piece of land as a fam...

RE: Amaroo Tree Boxes

Allen, I'm actually smack dab in the center of Houston on a tiny 7,000 sq ft lot. I have a little extra space to play with, as our lot backs to a drainage ditch easement, but it's not nearly enough. We are thinking of buying some acreage somewhere Southwest of here, maybe Wharton or Lavaca county? T...

RE: Amaroo Tree Boxes

Allen.
You're clearly an optimist. I'll have to master growing it before I could think of selling it. :) But perhaps somewhere far far down the line I will have a giant bamboo ranch...
