RE: tagging bamboo
millerlightman02, That's a cool idea. I'm just using vinyl tree tags for now, but I may have to find another pen, the sharpie I used seems to be disappearing a bit from the weather? I'd be curious to see how the sun or other elements affect the readability down the line on your signs, can you post b...

RE: Seedlings started on perlite with pre-soak sterilization
Yeah, even with F. nitida seeds, I had near 100% germination last July when I got them, and 2 months later, maybe 80%, and all of a sudden like 10% 8 months later. I haven't had any problem with jiffy peat pellets and other seeds, just some of my bamboo seeds. Then again they could have been "d...

RE: Seedlings started on vermiculite with pre-soak steriliza
Hi JohnC! Just curious what you mean by "mature seeds"? Have you had them awhile? If so, do you know how old they are? Also, that looks like Perlite to me, not vermiculite? (though both could be used interchangably for this situation?). The vermiculite I've bought looks more like tiny litt...

RE: New Cameras...
Rick, That's what I figured. Well, I think you'll dig that Panasonic Lumix then, the one I played with was amazing for it's time (it was 3 models earlier), and had the best overall package for it's size. Much smaller than my "mid-size" olympus (but not one of those credit card sized ones s...

RE: New Cameras...
Boonut, no cameras on my wishlist (other than a Nikon DLSR, but that has an emphasis on the WISH part of it.... =D). Rick, just saw your note. I don't know if you picked those two cameras based on their prices, or on how small the camera is. I will say that if you are interested in long zoom, and de...

RE: New book by Ted Meredith - The Complete Book of Garlic
Bill, it looks like this might have come out a couple weeks back. Did you get your copy? Just curious what you think of it if you did. I really liked his Bamboo book, so I'm expecting to like this one as well! Too bad my local library doesn't have this one yet, maybe I should request it to be added ...

RE: Two Spotted Spider Mite
I have no experience with any of these products, or spider mites in general, but happened across this link to "safe" ways to get rid of spider mites, and one method they mention is to buy and release ladybugs, as the author claims they LOVE eating spider mites. http://www.ehelpfultips.com/...

RE: 2008 Portland Bamboo Festival
Bill, I didn't even think about that (you driving through Hood River!!!). Maybe next year we can carpool? I'll look for your pics later after they're up! Roy, you're right about gas prices. Nice thing about the good-ol days, back then you could still buy a house/land for $12,000 (at least in Seattle...
