Re: R.I.P. Parker’s Giant
Both of mine are toast as well. They were such a beautiful bamboo for this area. Both of mine seeded... and took some time to completely die.

Re: Dendrocalamus sp. 'Parker's Giant' flowering
One of mine has leaves on two branches only. The culms are still pretty green. But, it definitely seems to be going downhill. The second one still has about 1/3 the leaves of the normal plant and seems to be going downhill as well. Like you said... flowers disintegrating all over the ground. Parker'...

Re: Dendrocalamus sp. 'Parker's Giant' flowering
Very interesting... I just read about the Dendrocalamus Giganteus at the San Diego Botanical Garden. I guess they changed the name from Quail Botanical Gardens around 2009. Here is a pic of that bamboo when we visited years ago.. http://www.bambooweb.info/images/bamboo/quail_d_giganteus3_2008b.jpg H...

Re: Dendrocalamus sp. 'Parker's Giant' flowering
Hi Roy, I have two... one I got from Hawaii and one from Florida. One flowered heavily about a month ago. It had a few leaves left, but now they don't look well. The other one just recently flowered. I have seen discussion about topping the bamboo. What are your plans? Both were pretty large. Is thi...

Re: Last Call... Boonut Farm
Thanks Eastlandia! I am sure going to miss the farm... but, I would rather sell it than watch it slowly decline because I can't take care of it the way I used to. It has been an oasis for our family since our kids were small.

Last Call... Boonut Farm
Time to sell the Boonut Farm. It is getting harder and harder to work on the 21.43 acres. We have had a lot of fun with tropical bamboo and have a nice collection. If you are interested in buying a bamboo farm or purchasing (and digging) up some bamboo, let me know. We have never sold bamboo... but,...

Good post Brad... couldn't agree more. Balance between top and bottom is critical... especially with the recent stress.

Re: D.Asper Hitam seeds? Do they actually exist?
I agree... most seeds you get are D. Strictus - Regardless! I have purchase quite a few seed over the years. Not a single one turned out to be what was advertised. I was very disappointed after spending lots of time growing them only to find out several years later they were a worthless variety. I h...

Re: timor black and Dendrocalamus minor bamboo hardiness
Two comments... 1) If you find seeds for these, they will probably NOT actually be either one. Many of the seed you can find are from Dendrocalamus Strictus or related variety. 2) If your temps are lower than 27F, I wouldn't try to grow either one... too cold. You can grow these in pots... and winte...

Re: Timor Black Bamboo Turning Yellow
BTW, even in high, cold winds, my B. Lako can look like that. I have noticed that they rebound quickly as the temps start to stay above 65. Usually by February 25th or so, all my bamboo recover from the winter just fine. I wouldn't do anything other than nurse it along and bring it in the garage or ...

Re: Timor Black Bamboo Turning Yellow
Bambusa Lako can be damaged by freezing temps... especially in a pot. I live about 6 hours south of you and I have over 20 in the ground. In years we have a freeze, they all look like that. If the freeze is below about 29, you can lose over half of your leaves. If below 27, you may lose most of your...
