Re: How I trick squirrels into leaving my bambo shoots alone

Thanks anything is just about worth a try. The gave me fits this past shooting season. Even built a chicken wire cage around the Robert Young. Then had the pain of cutting it off of them later.

Re: Bamboo Birdhouses

Dan you need to think how far the hole is from the bottom of birdhouse. Can the young birds get out of it. I was told not to put it very far from bottom.

Re: Bamboo Celebration Day

I hope everyone has a great time. The 1100 mile/18 hour drive each way counts me out.
Hey Mantis if you do go stop in Little Rock and I will meet you and drive the other 9 hours there.

Steve, the tip of the rihzome that is going up was in the ground covered before you put it in the pot?

Re: Thinning out older small culms to promote larger new sho

I can't see cutting down any clums on young bamboo. I would let it grow up and become a larger bamboo before I start to thin out. More there the more it can put into the rihzomes.

Re: Rhizomes grow earlier than I thought!

yeah that makes sense i mean, do they all pop up or are there deep ones? I was digging in a temp. bed where I had three different boo's planted this morning and most of the rihzomes were from 3 to 6 inchs deep and had never sufaced out of the ground. Had more of that on the side where they grew out...

Re: yard pics

Yep them there squirrels a a pain in the ***. Can't keep them gone. If I leave for one day the will clean me out. Robert Young going for it's second round. They cleaned the first out. Built a chicken wire cage around them this time. Can cut it off later. Was the first shooting for it. Hope this helps.
