I am sure that they would. I had some plants in my vegetable garden that were free standing at about 4.5 feet tall and I am sure they would have gotten 6 tall this year had I not dug them up and divided them. They benefited from shade from neighbors privet hedge

What factors reduce Fargesia nitida new culm production
I am wondering if anyone else had a bad year for shooting with Fargesia nitida. All of my other Fargesia species did fine last year very little new culm production and no upsizing plants were otherwise healthy and didn't appear stressed.

I bought a one gallon one last year in the fall on clearance cost me about a buck. I will have to see how it does this year looking forward to another variegated grass.
