Nope, not bamboo but it damn sure looks like a Sasa sp. , common name tiger grass - Thysanolaena maxima. Should get to around 8' with a vase shaped profile, I think it is a handsome devil, Google some images of it to see mature forms. Vendor said he thinks mine will get to 8' yet this year but that seems optimistic, only 2-3 months before it gets cold here.

Could have fooled me! Even the fully grown plants look very much like bamboo except for the flowers. Too bad it looks like it's for zone 7-10, might not like my zone 5 winters, I could use some sun tolerant clumping grasses like that.

That looks fabulous Brad! Keep us posted on how it does before going dormant. I might have to try that as an annual next year. :)

Rufledt -- not zone 7, as it's only hardy to -2ÂșC.
