Growing potatoes indoors

Post by stevelau1911 »

One thing I've always wanted to try was to see if potatoes could grow and produce indoors. I've found that the first 2 that came up 2 months ago produced leaves, but eventually ended up drying out. One of them is putting out a shoot again, but downsized from before as the indoor lighting is not enough to generate enough photosynthesis for good starch production.

Three of them that simply sat dormant for over 2 months after being planted seem to be growing all of a sudden. If I used some south facing window lighting, there may be somewhat of a biomass increase, but under a small 9 watt led light, they will only be expending more energy than they produce.

One thing that seems kind of surprising is that the seemed to activate around the same time the indoors phyllostachys primotina finally got around to producing their first shoots.
