***** Emergency broadcasting system******
OK, forget the previous post... send all large diameter boo to Boonut. Enough to build a BIG boat. Big enough for family and boo.

I think we texans have to root for the accuracy of the GFDL model.
http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tr ... ml#a_topad
It is clearly divergent, apparently because the models are reacting differently to an upper level low expected over the Gulf early next week.
Statistically, the GFDL was the most accurate model overall for 2006 Atlantic storms, so we shouldn't count it out.
Save the boo!

I neglected to mention that I would really rather the storm slow to nothing and hurt no one. I have no gripes with any of the fine folks in Louisiana...

Magsc21,
Looks like the GFDL track just moved from LA to TX. These models have a way of following the hurricanes rather than the hurricanes following the model. I left Houston ahead of Rita with the path predicted to take it over Brenham as a Cat 1. After I ended putting everything I could carry into the barn Rita turned east and it ended up being a sunny day here with no rain and no wind. Not that I am complaining.

Drat, that new GFDL would put me right on the dirty side. Turn your head for an hour and everything changes!
Now a cat 4. Eek!
I guess for Boonut's sake maybe now we should root for as far south as possible.
Mike, we left Houston ahead of Rita too, spent a whole day packing and moving a million pots into the garage, got to my in-laws in Austin and then watched the Rita footage shot at one of the networks about a mile from our house. The orange cone in the parking lot never even blew over! Better safe than sorry though I guess. I'm not really looking forward to a repeat though...

Hope you guys will be ok over there in Texas. I still think there is a good chance that it could turn our way, but who really knows? All of my boo should be ok this season. What I wonder about is those who have boos that perform very poorly in hurricanes like G. atro. How do you prepare a plant that is known to do bad in hurricanes?

I have been thinking about cutting all the culms down to about 6 feet to reduce the wind drag. That way when they do recover, you get lots of new culms.
Haven't tried that, but it has to be better than trying to get a large Atro upright. I have 2 nice clumps of Atro.

I guess if you have enough trees for some wind protection, then maybe they will be ok.
From the last images of the storm, its looking better for you Texans. Looks like Mexico is in for a beating though, after Dean finishes with Jamaica.

Some parts of the farm are still soggy, while other parts are already dry and the boo needs water. I guess parts of the farm have more sand. I hope it goes into an area with few people in Mexico and dumps some rain our way.
I am chair of the International lane for our Rotary club. One of our projects is to support and help build a school just south of the border near Matamoros. We work with the Matamoros Rotary club on this project. The school is a few miles from the coast, so I hope it doesn't hit there.
I used to go scuba diving off the coast of Mexico near a town called Tuxpan. There is great diving near the Island called "Lobos". That area is south of Tampico. Those folks could get hit bad. I guess there is no easy place to go on shore. Just hope everyone is prepared.

Allen, as of this morning it looks like you are going to come out ok, but if Dean should happen to make a turn for your place you are more than welcome to come spend some time in our guest room.

Thanks Mantis... it does look like we will be ok. I was a little worried about getting out of here and then finding a place to stay.
