Tropical Bamboo company in Florida

Post by bambookid524 »

Anyone been there? I am heading down to Florida this weekend and will be staying in a hotel 15 min. from there and I am going to be stopping by and maybe picking up a few plants. Does anyone know if this place is nice? I checked out there website, and they look pretty cool.

I will also be going by Palm Beach Bamboo.

Is this the place you are referring to?

I've ordered from them on... ummm... 4 different occasions. 3 times I have been VERY happy, one time I was disappointed, but in all fairness I was told that the bamboo was scrawny when I ordered, so they have been honest.

Actually, about 10 minutes ago I sent off an e-mail to them asking about a couple boo I am looking for. I would have no trouble ordering from them again.

Not sure if that helps or not.

I have never been there but a friend of mine just bought a bunch of plants from them and was very happy, he said they had lots of culms and very well developed root system.

I notice on your plant list you want Schizostachyum brachycladum 'Bali Kuning', and Gigantochloa atroviolacea, but I think it gets to cold where your at for them, considering they are very pricey to begin with it could be an expensive mistake for you.

I have to many Bambusa ventricosas you can dig and take for free if your interested though not sure if they would do well north of Atlanta.

Wal,

I'm assuming you are talking about Bambusa chungii var. barbelatta. I find it much easer to work with than the regular B. chungii. I've only had mine a little bit over a year, and the Bambusa chungii var. barbelatta grows so much better for me in pots than the regular B. chungii. The picture below shows 2 pots of Bambusa chungii var. barbelatta (2 on the right) that I put as a single culm in each pot in early Fall last year. Now one pot has 4 new culms and the other one has 5. With regular B. chungii I would be lucky to have the original 2 culms still look good.

Well I discovered that this chungii variety may be available soon, I saw a clump at "Bamboo Down Under" at Mt Tambourine on the weekend actually. Here it is.

Wal,

Very nice clump they have there. As best as I can read their sign, the sign says that Barbi has the same white bloom as reg. B. chungii. I haven't grown "Barbi" long enough to know if the white bloom stays as long on the culms as it does on the reg. B. chungii. So far though, it is much easier to grow and propagate in pots than regular B.chungii. Hopefully you will have some growing at your place soon. :D

Nice looking bamboo! This is proof that bamboo can indeed grow upside down, "down under" in Australia at "Bamboo Down Under", (under all the other continents on the earth that is).

I believe our computers encoding in the USA turns all things from "down there" right side up automatically for our viewing so we don't have to stand on our heads.
