Re: Recomend good saws all/blades
I have a cordless dewalt that works fine, batteries don't have the best service life, but don't have a comparison. Also have a corded milwalkee, which is the gold standard of sawzalls. Metal cutting blade with fine teeth best for making neat culm cuts. Demo blades are good for cutting rhizomes below ground.

Ryobi 18 volt Has a good price and the older blue Recipicating saw I have has stood up well. The new Lithium batterys are excellent have used them for three years and have not had one fail yet.

Re: Recomend good saws all/blades
I'm looking forward to my Ryobi cordless breaking so I can justify to myself buying something better. It's pretty close to worthless. I often wind up manually cutting with it. One battery is nearly dead and the other, just a year or two old, is hard to hold a charge. I get maybe three cuts before I have to recharge. The thing originally cost about $80 if I remember right and now they want $60 for new batteries which come two to a pack. My next purchase will be a corded sawzall instead.

My corded Makita with 8 inch long blade (and 50 ft. extension cord
) has almost replaced my chainsaw.
Please PM me if you have heard any new news about the ABS SoCal chapter.

This guy was at my place salvaging some of my killed nigra culms a coupe of weeks ago. His system worked real neat. Solves the problem of sharp branch stubs and tearing out.

He said the small saw works great for cutting culms as well. I haven't tried it yet, but I will.
