I like the fact that I have a bamboo not everyone has. Not referring to parvifolia (spelling is most likely wrong). Yes tissue culture can make a plant that is rare to the masses available to the masses but then it takes the fun out of searching and saving to come up with a gem. Just my two cents.
I have 45 varieties. Some very rare, some rare. some common but available and a few commons. The rarest being phyllostachys edulis 'Bicolor' at this time with a couple others coming soon.
But anyhow isn't part of the fun having to search, wait and maybe save to acquire a certant specimen. Maybe I'm twisted but I like having to wait to acquire a prized plant and know not everyone is willing to spend the cash or the time to get it. Not just bamboo but other things. Not trying to be a snob of any sort I don't make tones of money I just like rare things.
I too like to share and actually give them away if I really like the individual.
The bulk of the people who come to this web site are the rarest of bamboo consumers. The average person who buys bamboo at Lowe's does not care if a plant is rare common or what ever. The only people who REALLY care about parvifolia or the other two you mentioned are right here on this web site. I may be rude but who cares about sharing with the Lowe's customer. The BULK of which will never have a true love for bamboo or any other rare tree or plant. If you start tissue culturing every bamboo then then some of the fun is truly lost.
I agree with you John. I just want to produce about a 1/2dozen plants of each and just give them to a few very selective collectors.
Most of the consumers who purchase plants could care less about the journey to get the plants brought into cultivation and the rich history associated with the plants.
Cady, what happened to the PATRIOTS? The Jets soared through them like butter.
!@#$ Jets must have been pumped up on high octane rocket fuel or backyard hooch.
Glad that you're priming your 'boo for future divisions and sharing. That's how bamboo builds brotherhood!
Imagine there's no 'boo hording
I wonder if you can?
No 'boo withheld from sharing
A bamboo brotherhood of Man.
Imagine all the bambooseros
livin' in their groves
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
You may say that I'm a dreamer
but I'm not the only one
Someday BooKing will share his parvifolia
Then the world's 'boo-deprived will live as one...
I admit that I have bought bamboo from Lowe's it is pretty rare to see bamboo available anywhere else in Utah. Besides that I am under budget constraints. I really do appreciate various members of the forum for their generosity and sharing of plant materials.
As I get things going I am spreading the word about bamboo and I am willing to share stuff from my meager collection.
Well I certainly hope some parvifolia becomes available to all. Then maybe I can figure out what causes all these wet dreams around here. But I am sure that upon everyone's acquisition of it there will be another green phyllo for all to drool over. The pics in the database just don't do it for me apparently to the extent that it does everyone else. It is hard to imagine anything more attractive that a beautiful mature grove of nigra or henon, maybe with some veitchii to contrast below.
