Red flag warning for native bamboo (Mexico)

Post by bambooweb »

I received the following today from Gib Cooper and thought it was worth posting here.
Bill
-------------------------------------------------------------
The following article illustrates what is
happening to cloud forest and mountain bamboo
habitat in Mexico and other countries in Latin
America. At the same time priority bamboo species
are being introduced as a sustainable alternative
we need to give an equal amount of effort towards
conservation and research to native bamboo
species.

On a positive note, Gilberto Cort?s has posted a
photogallery of many bamboo species, flowers and
traditional bamboo uses at the bambumex.org
website. Direct your browser to and click on the

Best wishes,

Its quite plausible that some bamboo species may bite the dust as human pressures take their toll. Kind of reminds me on the same token what has already happened to europe, united states, and is further encroaching on more remote locations.

I can recall and mention quite a few times over, that Iowa is the most altered state in the union, and I haven't really traveled to other states. So what I see in iowa is normal. Destruction may mean something to the current population, but it will be a distant memory and will be watered down to an effect of forgetting about it.

Will the native people preserve less desirable/ less vigorous native bamboo species over the more proven and more comfortable species? I am highly doubtful. :?
