The subject line pretty much says it. I walked into the backyard this afternoon and saw that it is in full flower.

Hi Dan, I have this in another thread, yours came from me I think?

How did the bamboo do in Indiana this year?

Still a bit early to tell, the worst damage was caused near zero temperatures combined with high winds. Any bamboo that was well shielded from the wind didn't take much damage. We seem to be getting a lot of high winds this year. Should know more in a few weeks.

Semiarundinaria okuboi has broken containment again. It has been the only bamboo I've had that managed to do this and done so twice now.

I suspect that my place there looks like crap. I basically cut down every grove and mowed for a few weeks except for some right up by the house. None of those areas have been mowed since and surely all the bamboo came back was top killed, not cleared, another spring, another top kill.

Nate, this one is the aureostriata form that is flowering, it is not a very common bamboo but I do fancy it, hope it survives.

Understood. I was just going with the logic that many bamboos if they are the same species will flower at approximately the same time.

You make a good point, I hadn't even thought about that.

If I have the correct one identified. Mine is flowering as well. I got the one I have from Brad just before he left Indiana. I will get some pics soon.

This is the unfortunate end of this pretty little bamboo after 3 seasons of flowering. This year it finally produced a few viable seeds which a friend is sprouting. I suspect the variegation will be lost.

Curious how many of these plantings have survived flowering. Ours seems to have stopped flowering, at least for now, and is putting up a few new shoots.

I have 3 in pots out here that did not die off but they have a minor mite infection so I cut the foliage back so they will be challenged to get going again.

I have one seedling from the flowering.
