That is a vigorous looking SOB, nice work.

Brad - Very funny, the two in front were the ones bred for vigour and treated with orzalin in the hope oif doubling the chromosomes and getting huge culms and extra height. They're from 1999 so a bit of a flop though they are apparently snapping out of their 17 year stupor so maybe there's still hope though they'll have to be moved.

Here is Scabrida in the same garden, it does not wait for spring-like weather and is shooting like mad with some up a foot or more. Though it was 18c today the temps have generally been around 7-10c so chilly in the fog - must feel like the mountains of China to them. This was a runt with 2-4 weak canes in a 1 gallon, planted out in desperation in Sept or Oct 2012.

Brad - This will give you an idea of that garden and how windy it is. Shot February 2013, not exactly speedo weather as the ocean suggests. The windbreak is in France.....

Brad - This may warm you up. Likely a November shot of that garden looking from customer's house to the same view of the Atlantic - due south aspect. The murielae is to the far left beyond the garden & trees and facing the ocean, so gets full winter sun. Mainly granite rocks / sheets but time and leaves have built up soil.

Scabrida doesn’t wait for spring-like here either though we have a couple month head start at 44˚ N on Pacific Coast.
The six previous days lows in Feb. before first pic were all at 0˚C. with highs less than 10˚C.
Today, most Feb. shoots are branching out.

NG looking good, though title did throw me also.

Lovely 'Scabrida' there wind-borne. Can't wait for local ones to gain lots of height.

Here's another NG F. murielae which we donated to the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens back around 2003 or so. Saw it this afternoon on a sunny and chilly day, planted in full sun.

I've been 'chasing' bambo for more than 15 years and still have not seen a large Fagesia in person yet, never been to the proper climate and mine always got smaller over time. So photos of large ones like this are nice to see. Here I'm doubtful where I live but nearby in the Bay area surely.

Brad - Attached is today's weeklong forecast. Nightime temps will not rise much until mid July as a rule. Gives you an idea of Fargesia conditions here.

Closest weather station is not Hfx. airport which is inland but Shearwater Airport which is right on our harbour..
