Introduction

Post by UPBooMatt »

Hello all. My name is Matt and I have a problem with bamboo...lol, but in a good way

I'll try to get some pics up sometime here but so far since I started collecting last summer I have acquired

Last summer:
Phyllostachys bissetii (2gal up potted to 4.5)
Pseudosasa japonica (variegated, but it isnt) (1gal up potted to 3)

Last fall:
Pleioblastus viridistriatus (1gal up potted to 3)
Sasa veitchii (same)
Hibanobambusa tranquilans Shiroshima (same)

And just this spring:
Phyllostachys aureosulcata spectabilis (3gal put in ground)
Phyllostachys rubromarginata (3gal put in ground)

I will be trying (and as on may 1st have planted) some in ground...some in pots...some both. The three Phyllostachys are being planted in a 3x12, open sided barrier, "grove" and will have to try to adapt to my zone 5 climate...lol

Happy to be here even though from my searching it looks like I'm about 5 years too late for peak activity.

All the seedlings are doing great. Nice upsize and interesting colors. I'll write an update on my blog as soon as they branch out a bit more. Now I have some mold related issues on the variegated leaves, caused by unstable weather with a lot of rain.

Good glad to hear it. I've read lots of your blogs about them, they are very nice looking.
