Heres some arundinaria I came across while walking the swamp this morning.

Arundinaria is hard to take good photos of in the wild. There's a grove of it in Shaw Nature Reserve (Gray Summit, MO) in the woods that I tried to take photos of, but they turned out kinda like yours: hard to tell you're looking at bamboo. A lot of it is scraggly, it's not that tall, and there's a lot of other stuff around (trees).

My guess would be that not enough sunlight gets through to provide energy.
This is also my guess for the grove of yellow groove that I found this year.
Too much plants eating up the resources food and light. I plan to dig in this grove again this year and see if I can make a nice screen to shield my other boo...
