I have some rabbit damage to my Fargesia and Thamnocalamus but the picture below shows a strange looking bite mark on 'spectabilis'. Any ideas? It is not a problem right now, I only found two shoots with markings like this but if whatever it was comes back, I may lose all my new growth for the year.
Any ideas?

Re: Shoot damage - squirrel, rabbit???
That's pretty much exactly the damage I was trying to describe in the thread "what is killing 50% of my bamboo" when I replied that earwigs were destroying my Spectabilis. Looks like they chewed clean through to the hollow center on the culm in your picture. On my culms, they move on before they get that far, probably either because the sheath falls off that node and they don't like being exposed, or because they get flooded out by the weeping.
I hate earwigs.
