Charissa Brock Bamboo Craft workshop

Charissa Brock will be holding a bamboo crafting workshop on Saturday, September 25 here at the Outdoors By Design Nursery. The workshop will start at noon and will last for 5-6 hours. Because this event is sponsored by the PNWC American Bamboo Society and Outdoors By Design LLC, the cost for the workshop is only 20.00 per person. We have room for 8 participants and registration will be on a first come first serve basis. If you are interested in taking advantage of this rare opportunity, contact me by phone or email ASAP in order to register and secure your spot. Below is a short bio, and a description of the workshop activities sent to me by Charissa. PNWC American Bamboo Society is holding it's annual meeting prior to the workshop, so feel free to drop by early to visit and learn from other bamboo enthusiasts!

Bamboo / Sculpture
Charissa Brock has worked with bamboo since 1999. Her bamboo, stone, and glass sculptures are created in her studio in Portland, Oregon. Her work is included in the Arizona State University Museum Collection Museum of Contemporary Crafts collection and the Sara and David Lieberman collection and can be seen at Pucini Lubel, Cervini Haas, and The Gallery at the Museum of Contemporary Crafts. Her work has been published in Fiberart and American Craft magazine.

One-day workshop
The Hanging Flower Vase
The hollow shape of bamboo makes it a perfect material for use as a vase. In this class we will talk about many different ways in which bamboo can be used. We will look at samples of various techniques. Students will learn basic handsaw skills, how to make a square hole in bamboo’s round physique, and have an opportunity to split bamboo. Other skills learned will be heat bending bamboo strips, drilling, and tying. Students will leave the workshop with a finished hanging bamboo flower basket.

Driving directions: From I-5 N or S, take exit 104 to Hwy 101 North, Aberdeen/Port Angeles. Follow Hwy 101 North for about 5.5 miles, then exit on right, following sign to 101 North, Shelton/Port Angeles. Continue on Hwy 101 for about 11.5 miles, then take the exit to North 3, Shelton/Bremerton. Bear to the right and merge onto North 3. We are the first house on the left, immediately after the merge onto North 3.
