Bamboo Craft workshop and PNW Bamboo Meeting, September 25

Post by bambooweb »

Charissa Brock Bamboo Craft workshop

Charissa Brock will be holding a bamboo crafting workshop on Saturday, September 25 here at the Outdoors By Design Nursery. The workshop will start at noon and will last for 5-6 hours. Because this event is sponsored by the PNWC American Bamboo Society and Outdoors By Design LLC, the cost for the workshop is only 20.00 per person. We have room for 8 participants and registration will be on a first come first serve basis. If you are interested in taking advantage of this rare opportunity, contact me by phone or email ASAP in order to register and secure your spot. Below is a short bio, and a description of the workshop activities sent to me by Charissa. PNWC American Bamboo Society is holding it's annual meeting prior to the workshop, so feel free to drop by early to visit and learn from other bamboo enthusiasts!

CHARISSA BROCK

Her work has been published in Fiberart and American Craft magazine.

One-day workshop
The Hanging Flower Vase
The hollow shape of bamboo makes it a perfect material for use as a vase. In this class we will talk about many different ways in which bamboo can be used. We will look at samples of various techniques. Students will learn basic handsaw skills, how to make a square hole in bamboo’s round physique, and have an opportunity to split bamboo. Other skills learned will be heat bending bamboo strips, drilling, and tying. Students will leave the workshop with a finished hanging bamboo flower basket.
