2006 ABS rare plant auction

Post by bambooweb »

OK it is official!! :blob8: The web auction is on.
If you would like to donate a plant there will be more information at : http://absauction.bambooweb.info Under Help - Donating.

2006 Rare Plant auction
Internet - Sept 15 to Oct 1
Hilo, Hawaii - Oct 21

Because of shipping and Quarantine concerns this year the auction will start on the Internet and conclude at the conference with the plants shown in photographs. Due to the one year quarantine requirement on bamboo into Hawaii, only those bamboos originating from Hawaii will be physically present at the auction on Saturday, October 21st, in Hilo. All bamboos from mainland donors will be auctioned first via the internet, then concluding at the live auction (by photograph).

The web auction will be at absauction.bambooweb.info and will start on Friday September 15th and continue till Sunday October 1st when the bids will be collected for the live portion of the auction on October 21st.

The auction plants will be viewable starting on September 1st as donations come in.

How will the bids work?
The bids at the website work like the proxy bids on ebay. The bidder will give their maximum bid and the current bid will be the next bid increment after the second highest maximum bid. In the event of a tie bid the first bidder will get the bid.

After the web auction ends the high bidders will deposit their maximum bid plus shipping through PayPal. The money will stay in the PayPal account until the live auction when excess monies will be refunded. At the Live auction the current web bids will be given to the auctioneer and the maximum bids will be given to a proxy. Photos of the plant will be projected on a screen and the auctioneer will have a printout for each plant that contains the plant information and the current web bid. The live auction bidding will start with the current bid from the web. If the live bid amount is not at the web bidder's maximum amount a proxy will then bid for the web bidder against bidders in attendance until the maximum is reached and he drops out or wins the auction.
At the end of the auction the results will be posted at the website and the web bidders will be emailed the results with and if they won they will be refunded the difference between the high bid and their deposit. Web bidders that lost will be refunded the whole amount of their deposit.

Has there been any talk of rare running boo to be auctioned off :?: . I was thinking about sending the case to the FBI(federal bamboo investigations).

I feel so lucky that I think I'm going to call my winning bamboo "Lucky". It might become so popular that people will post messages on bamboo forums wanting to know how to take care of it. It might charm the world so much that a major cereal company may name a cereal after it.

Bill,

Can you explain the shipping portion of the auction in more detail. I plan on donating a least one plant. May even cover the shipping to the lower 48...

Thanks,
Rick

Rick

Some board members wanted the donor to also donate the shipping but it was decided to include a separate shipping charge that goes to the donor. This can be anything from $0 to whatever the donor thinks they need to ship their plant to lower 48 states.
