RE: 10 days of moso shoot growth
Shooting season is fun!
I cut down just about all my Phyllostachys that got top-killed a few days ago. Noticed that one (only about 6' high) grew through a piece of old landscape fabric that must have been left over in the mulch. It was about a foot from the top of the culm. Would be funny to come home after a few days and see something (in your case maybe a chair or shed or something) 20' up.

Beautiful grove.
I wonder if "shoot envy" is covered in the DSM-IV?

I was convinced that maybe rfgpitt wasn't just joking - maybe a giant shoot had somewhere in the world speared a chair! Unfortunately, after an unproductive google image search, the closest I got was a foto of Britney Spears pole dancing... Anyone else have better luck?

Mike, beautiful moso pics. I think you must live in one of the best regions for growing a diversity of bamboo, anywhere.

20 days of moso shoot growth. Here's photos (too tall to get in one photo) of the shoot taken 10 days later (May 7)

My dulcis hasn't started shooting yet, but the largest dulcis shoot last year was 3.5" diameter.
