Steve is correct. As the plant matures it's naturally branch free on the lower culms. It obviously sizes up pretty quick so, as I remember, I removed small culms as the bigger ones came up. Keep up the good job!

I love the pics!!!! I would like to thank you for posting the pics, they are very nice. And keep doing what your doing the plant seems to be doing great. I wish I would be able to grow bamboo like that where i live, but I live up in Pennsylvania in ZONE 6. Even though I can grow some nice bamboo up here I would also like to grow some Dendrocalamus. I forget the exact specs, but I do know that some of the Dendrocalamus can get up to 10 inches in diameter! The bad thing about living in cold climates is that it limits the hieght of the bamboo and the diameter.

Leafing out well, I think I have to tidy it up a little though by thinning out a few culms, it's getting pretty crowded in there.
I'm really pleased with the growth (2 years and 2 months planted)
