Dendrocalamus Latiflorus upsizing

I thought I'd post a couple of photos of this D. Latiflorus I planted in April 2008 as a 2 gallon pot.

Very nice!!!! Looks like you go well out of your way to make your bamboo happy. Can't wait to see that one grow up. I had two that did well at my house in shade, but once I transplanted them to the farm, they were out in full sun in alkaline soil... I lost one. The other is still living, but has not grown much in 4 years. I may dig it back up and just enjoy that one in a large pot in the shade at my house.

I remember a fair while ago you posted some photos of D. Maroochy in those large pots, the huge leaves were really striking. I'm thinking of picking one up shortly for the collection, did you ever plant yours out? And if so, how are they fairing?

I just recently put both of the D. Maroochy in the ground. I dug huge holes with plenty of great soil and amendments. Too soon to tell how they will do. It is already very hot here, so I almost expected them to go downhill quick because of the big leaves, but, so far, both are doing fine. I lost the tops of the culms from the freeze this past year, so they didn't have as many leaves as usual. This may have actually helped them at the farm. I will post pictures as they grow. They have been in the ground about 2 weeks now. The holes were about 3 times the size of the 120 gallon pots. The Maroochy definitely has huge leaves. They were bigger than D. Giganteus. We will see how they do at the farm.

It is amazing how so many bamboo that were just sitting there are doing much better after the freeze. The one I am most amazed with is the Dendrocalamus Asper "Betung Hitam". It didn't put up a new culm last year. Already this year, after the freeze, it put up two nice size culms.

Boonut, I'd be really interested to hear as time progresses how your D. Maroochy fair in the ground. I'm definitely looking forward to getting one planted. It's amazing how resilient things can be so that's great news that there are some positive things happening after that bad winter you had over there.
