Oldhamii is doing something very weird. Pictures

Post by markdoddridge »

What is going on here, ive never seen it do this before. It has little buds growing out of it. I double checked and its not some other plant growing behind it, its the oldhamii. Is it flowering? i thought they only did this every 100 years or so

When did Oldhamii last flower?

Is there a resource somewhere that lists dates of flowerings for various species? I think there is, but it may not be publicly accessible.

Oldhamii is flowering all over the US in small numbers quite often.

Is the gregarious flowering or random stress induced flowering?

This particular plant is actually in a row of divisions i took from a mature specimen last summer. This is the only one flowering out of 4 plants, which leads me to believe it is stress induced, if there is such a thing. Should i bother saving the seeds?

If they make seeds yup. Stress induced flowering doesn't allways make seed.
