Here's the new Spectabilis shoot I found today, a full month after the first one. I know it's not well-focused. I'll get better.

Thank you. That tropical blue is such a show off. But I rarely realize how much bloom the prior culms lost until the new ones emerge. The powder on that looks so good. For some reason though, the more powder I get on top of me just makes me look ratty. Doesn't seem fair. And I've never been as photogenic.

The angel mist gets real pretty too after the culm grows a bit. Beautiful markings on it. I'm hoping they size up well this year to show themselves off. Another real pretty one, that I wasn't expecting when I bought it is the Parker giant. That thing turned orange for a short while last year. Surprised me. I love watching the Betung Hitam grow last year too. It was sprouting by now but we did have a wetter winter than this year. Hoping that sizes up real nice too. And the very fastest grower last year was the Monastery. Maybe I'll time it a bit this year. I timed the Betung last year at about 6 inches a day. I'd imagine that one speeds up when it matures because it reaches such great height. 80-90 feet whatever. And I've read it's a real fast one. I'm gonna sell rides.

I saw your pics in other thread of those tumidissinodas. Super cool. I've never seen that before. I'm determined to stay with clumpers but that one's very tempting.

4th year in-ground Yushania Boliana shoots are pushing up through the layer of compost I put on it last week. Some look like they could be good sized culms this year.

I was kind of surprised when P edulis bicolor happened to be the only one to produce a shoot making it the first phyllostachys to come up here. It got to 87F yesterday so I guess it could be part of the reason, but I don't understand why none of the other ones aren't shooting yet.

This happened to emerge about 3 inches away from my 15 gallon p vivax aureocaulus so I guess the heat from the pot must have triggered this one.

It is only 2/3 inches in diameter, and over 3 feet away from the main clump so I expect that other shoots are close to emerging, and likely have some bigger than this one.

More culms coming up since our last good rain though not a drop since. I count about 60something culms have broken ground.

Here's two new ones of species not yet reported this year

this might be Bambusa vulgaris 'Wamin' (was identified thus on this forum as originally it was sold to me by others as a different species)

Here's Betung Hitam, right on schedule. I'll keep it watered until rainy season starts in about two-three weeks.

And here's some progress shots of ones I posted on the 4th

Represent!

Does anyone still say that? I might be a little late to the fad.

But, yeah, that's Asian lemonade. The new culms nicely sizing up. I love the yellow on that and sometimes use it to flank one of the black bamboos. I've done it with Timor so far and the Betung will eventually have a lemon backdrop, a lemon drop, badabum.

Here's today's overcast shot of that tropical blue culm pictured above.

Totally before I was born dude! You must be old school!
But the pics are way cool! And it's rad to see bamboos not many can grow!

Peace Out!

The Chungii in question has no idea to what you refer but denies the allegation nonetheless.

As I was assuming, there were bigger shoots which just broke the surface today, and one of the looks like it will be around 1 1/4 inches.

Only 3 shoots so far so I think there should be more to emerge. One reason is because the one from the earlier picture is already 1/2 the height of the milk jug meaning the starch availability is good, or it's just warm enough for the shoots to grow quickly.
