Sasaella masamuneana 'Albostriata' and Redbud

Post by Matt W »

I'm looking for ideas to permanently remove the redbuds from this patch of what I believe to be Sasaella masamuneana 'Albostriata'
Started several years ago from a 1 gallon pot divided 4 ways, they are now growing together and looking pretty good, on a rough, steep, rocky and ugly bank. Every year I snip the redbud sprouts off at the ground and every year they show back up again. The tree that seeded this area has been gone for years. I can't spray to kill them without getting the poison on the bamboo. Suggestions appreciated, I'm tired of climbing that bank so often the cut the junk.

Thanks, Matt

Make a plastic dam to isolate redbud from boo, and spray redbud with roundup from a small spray bottle. Or get a paint brush and paint each redbud leaf with roundup. Add some surfactant to make it coat the leaves better.

Cut them down and paint the "stump" with Roundup. That's the strategy for removing bush honeysuckle here. May be more effective in the fall as the plant "sucks" resources back into the roots (I read that somewhere but am unsure if it's truth).

Thanks for the ideas guys. Repeatedly cutting them just isn't working.

Can they not be pulled? While plunging a stiff knife adjacent?
