Beautiful atrovaginata shoot Nicholas!

Does this look correct for P. sp. Shanghai #3?

And finally huangwenzhu and edulis bicolor.

I've had a bit of leaf-burn on the bicolor albeit double-tarping it but apart from that it is looking much healthier than the last two years when I overwintered it inside a cold bright room in a big pot.
This year it will still be easy to tarp it up again but eventually I'll only protect some parts of the plant to ensure that it survives even if we get a really harsh winter.

Thanks john!

As for the Shanghai 3 shoots - I'm having a hard time telling them apart from dulcis.
Mine tend to be a bit darker than yours and the culm sheaths also have a little bit of a cream-colored edge.
I don't have any good shoot pictures from the shanghai 3 this year but here is a picture of last year's shoots

all the best,

Nicholas

I posted this yesterday, linked to the photos in another forum (they are still there) but now the post seems gone, apologies if this is redundant...

I have noticed first real Borinda fungosa shoots. It got top-killed this winter and revived with side shoots and branches from below the soil level. All thin and less than 0.5 m tall. The shoots I see now are not large and will most likely perish during the winter. I'm happy it survived tho.

A steady uprising of GenF shoots this summer with a dozen more in the last few days. Will be interesting to see how the culms color up and foliage fills out come Spring.

Borinda fungosa (gaolinensis?) seedling that got decimated during the winter is shooting. Shoots grow slowly and are pretty small, but if they can harden enough before winter is here, I'm sure large shoots may follow next year. The positive thing is, Borinda did survive the winter.

My Pseudosasa viridula is shooting now! Produced just a couple of small shoots in the spring, but now it's got half a dozen or so, and a couple of them are the biggest so far. I had no idea! (This plant has been languishing in a tough spot for several years -- I wonder if its roots got close enough to the nearby rose that it's getting more fertilizer and water now?)
