Re: Fall shooting thread
I still have plenty of shooting inside the greenhouse on many of the fargesias, bambusas, and surprisingly my rubromarginata still appears to be active maybe due to dividing it up in the late summer since it was getting root bound. The temperatures were averaging around 37-50F prior to the warmup, but in the last few days, it has risen to around 45F-78F. The greenhouse as an enormous thermal mass of 200 gallons, and plenty of insulation so I think it will need to drop well into the teens to drop the greenhouse temperature below freezing. Average winter temperatures are around 20-34F here, and based on the results in my greenhouse so far, it will likely average around 25-40F in the greenhouse given that we have average winter temperatures.
This rubromarginata shoot went from about 10 inches to closer to 20 inches in this picture in the past 3 days. The leaf growth hasn't stopped either.

Here are some of the branch buds on one of the prominens starting to elongate prematurely, but I think they will be fine inside the greenhouse where the warmup can happen as early as March.

One thing I have wondered is if a giant 30ft tall tipi greenhouse over a mature bamboo would have anywhere close to the heating effect that I am seeing inside my poly-tunnel greenhouse. If they do, then it may be possible to grow some of the hardier bambusas in zone 6 without a space heater. I am more interested in growing the 100ft dendrocalamus bamboos in zone 6, but I can't think of a feasible way to make it happen yet.
