Pseudosasa viridula has put up a couple of shoots.

Back in July my M. baccifera put up two shoots, one of which grew as normal. Also its other culms have put out a few branches.

The second shoot has done very little. It might be slightly greener than it was nearly two months ago. It may also be slightly larger in diameter. But other than that it has just sat there.

My second baccifera has just barely hung on with just one leaf. It has been this way for the past 5 months.

Noticed my first shoots of the year for my Bambusa Longispiculata and two shoots on my Gigantochloa pseudoarundinacea. Sweet...

Also, I don't know if this is typical, but my Dendro minor amoenus has been shootings continuously all summer. It has not stopped.

My only bamboo that has not put up any shoots is the Dendrocalamus giganteus. I did just get it this summer from Chuck's.

I love the summer here in Florida. Lots of rain, heat and humidity. Great for bamboo, not so great for my electric bill

I guess there is really no "shooting season" - it happens year round!

kanapaha fifth shoot for the year just came up down sized after 4 up sized.
textilis just put up a down sized shoot ,one b4 that an "up size'' quit growing at six inches i think it will abort
wamin last shoot was a down size still growing, the one b4 that, an up size
aborted at about 18" also lost all branches on another culm. see entry under bug beasts and disease for pics.
chungii last three shoots down size after a great season
alphonse karr one new down size

I think they are all pooped out
looks like end of the season for me!
anyone else see this kind of behavior?

I have a freshly planted oldhamii that put up 2 upsized shoots and then a third that is smaller and leafing out early.

Pooped out is a good description.

B. textilis gracilis 1 more shoot today. Surprising to me as we have begun a notable cooling trend. Only to be 75F today, normal in the mid-80s.

Take care all.

Round two of shooting season is definitely under way. These plants have put at least one new shoot out recently; D. yunanicus, B. perv., B. perv. viridistriata, G. sumatra, D. latiflorus, B. malingensis, B. tuldoides, B. textilis, B. oldhamii, D. minor, B. chungii, B. chungii Barbie, D. giganteus 'Q', B. emeinsis Viridiflavus, & B. hirose.

Still no shoots at all from Guadua angustifolia, +... 'Bi-color, B. v. Wamin, or the 'Parker Giant'.
