Don`t know about the rest of you but I seem to have a bit of a mite problem. Sprayed all my bamboo today with a systemic miticide called Cygon 2E. I wonder what my chances of 100% erradication are.

Hopefully you can get the mite issue under control! I had 2 'boos with mites, both were plants I dug from a friends who lives in a pretty mild climate- zone 9 I think. We are a zone 7, and after a year, neither plant showed evidence of mites. I have not sprayed or chemically treated either plant, and it has been 3 years that they have been in the ground here, so depending on your climate, they may get knocked out with the combo of the systemics and the winter chill.

I have mites again on Shibataea chinensis, they came on the plant when shipped from Oregon 3 years ago. This means that they can take temps of -5F without snow cover without being killed back. So far I have not seen them spread to any other species, I'll try 'Safer' to see if it can do anything to them.

I use Cygon on all new plants that I get and so far it has done a good job killing bamboo mites. Unfortunately it has been removed from the market here so when my bottle runs out I will have to find something new.

Cygon is the only chemical that I have where I need to dress up in resistant coveralls with rubber boots and gloves and goggles. A respirator is also advised. If used as a soil drench make sure there is no chance of runoff where it could get into water.

Is Cygon 2E a new formulation of Cygon or are they one in the same?

Cygon 2E contains 2 lbs of dimethoate (Cygon) per gallon in an Emulsifiable concentrate.

has anyone researched bamboo mites in regards to if there a differing species, or if there are more than one species of mite that will feed on bamboo? I have only ever heard of "bamboo mites" as one type of critter, and the ID seems pretty simple, from what I have seen in photos as well as in actual plants. I wonder why the difference in our experience with them, unless there is some other factor involved, ie. some predatory mite native to my area, etc.
