Fargesia robusta
What is the track record for this plant. Does anyone know what it needs to thrive?
RE: Fargesia robusta
I have had one for about 5 years. I have it in morning sun/afternoon shade in zone 6a/b. Temps over 90degrees in the summer and it still does well. Just water, water, water in the heat. This season it put up over 75new shoots some which will be over 14feet high. An excellent performer

Booking, has your Robusta ever top killed? I'm once again looking at the puniest Fargesia shoots and I wonder how much of this is top kill related, or restated, are the Fargesia extremely prone to serious down sizing after top kill - particularly while they are just getting established.

Is robusta one of the cold-hardier ones? I hear the static suggesting that rufa is the top dog in cold-hardiness. Has that view changed. I plan to try a couple fargesia next year.

I never lost any canes. When it was young I had minor leaf kill only on a few culms. It's in a protected spot near the house though.

King,
Mine was put in a more protected spot next to my house and only had a few green leaves left at the base. It's shooting well now for a first year division.
My F.d. 'White Dragon' sent a few 3 and 4 inch shoots. It may be on its way out
