It looks like the saying sleep, creep, & leap have held true for some of my bamboos. Many of them aren't doing much for their 3rd season, but the hardier ones that don't top kill are putting up huge shoots compared to the existing juvenile growth. Once they leaf out, I really want to cull the old stuff to make it finally look like real bamboo. Looking good is more important to me than getting a bit more size the next year.

Atrovaginata, there are more than just 3. Those just happened to come up the soonest right in the middle of the grove.
