It has been very brutal heat wise here in Kansas this summer. Today hit 111 degrees and it will likely continue to be 100 or higher all next week. My Rufa Green Panda is the only one that can't seem to take it. Do you think it will come back?

Bamboo and the phrase "dry heat" should never be in the same sentence and in your case the plant is dropping leaves to save moisture. In addition that brick wall at that air temp is drying out the ground around it. I would water the ground till it couldn't hold anymore water, expect to loose a lot of those damaged leaves over the next few weeks, even so it should pull through and recover without to much trouble.

Give it shade, and the wall behind it that should reduce the excessive heat a bit.

I'm not sure if the brick wall helps or hurts, but definitely give it lots of water. Shade would help too.

I'm doing an experiment with green panda down here in Austin, TX- but it is in almost complete shade. So far so good, with almost 30 days over 100 degrees.

Unless you want to build a shade frame- and eliminate the building heat radiation, relocation might be in order. Do you have a shady spot?

The fargesias are such beautiful plants, but when you try to bring the Asian mountains to central USA heatwaves, they do tend to rebel.

When scouring the internet for "heat" and fargesia, only a couple species are listed as "possible"- 'Rufa' and 'Scabrida'.

That is one of my shadiest spots receiving only morning sun. It gets around a gallon of water every day when it is this hot.

My big Rufa got heat-scorched last summer -- it looked similar to yours -- but did no permanent damage. I don't know if misting the plant would help, but instead of 1 gallon of water a day I'd do 2 gallons every other day. A deeper soaking encourages the roots to grow deeper, giving the plant more drought tolerance in the future.

I would spray the foliage, and put a white garbage bag over it...
Just during the hottest part of the day; if you can...
That, or else getcha some lattice from the BigBox store and build a shade structure or else something like this...

...although I think the lattice idea on legs or somthing would fit the 'temporary' bill a little better...

White garbage bag is a really bad idea in my opinion while the sun is hitting that area.

BMC - I didn't mean to rile you. Why so rude? I just think that putting a greenhouse over a plant that doesn't like heat doesn't seem like the best way to help it during the hottest part of the day. I haven't actually done it.

If you've done this with a Rufa before and it's actually helped, please correct me.

haha, only way to solve this now, is you two fight with bamboo sticks and whoever loses has to give me free bamboo to kill. This is a good punishment.
