So is the very first photo in this thread now the very last one in less than a year?

But that first photo of a culm and some skinny shoots is now the full pot in the last one?

Maybe ignorance is bliss. I mixed 50% generic garden soil, 40% sand, 10% coffee grounds, . I live on a sand dune and drink coffee so really just using what is at hand. My plants are exposed to a very wet environment a lot of the year as noted earlier in thread.johnw wrote:Nice shot there wind-borne. I'm afraid I would find it very hard to resist the temptation to propagate that J#1, all those roots on every new shoot.
What sort of mix do you use? I ask as I find I have to make sure the drainage is particularly sharp for Fargesias potted up in the autumn and care not to overwater.
johnw - overcast and +12c, 25mm. last night.

Yeah, I haven't quite figured out what it is with certainty but they just did not do well for me in Indiana, they got smaller over time and Alan has trouble in MO, I don't think it is high temps and cold winters alone. Cool nights might be all the difference, soil aspects, humidity etc. I think they do better in the NE as well, and clearly in Europe they do well in many places. I'm trying some in pots so far here in Sacramento where the day temps are way beyond hot but nights are 30-40 degrees cooler, low humidity.wind-borne wrote:Yes, minus a division I took last week when transplanting.needmore wrote:But that first photo of a culm and some skinny shoots is now the full pot in the last one?
Seeing that growth rate on yours really gives perspective.

to clarify OP a bit here is a photo taken a month after the very first as the first 3 shoots began branching out amidst new shoots
