Re: Boo-Shoots 2016
here is some of mine. I am not sure if what i have that was purchased as Fargesia r. Green Screen is in fact that. You see my nursery ordered it from a place down south and the first one i got was this, I ordered 3 more a few weeks later and they sent me sick Borinda angustissima and my dock guys down south just know the basic social bamboo. So likely its something different? though it appears to have different shoots than the Rufa ( which we actually grow)
I don't know ill try and get another pic next weekend once the shoot pushes some more

Re: Boo-Shoots 2016
Here is a couple progressions of Green Screen? shoots this week. If yours looks similar will be nice to rule out rufa as I think I have ruled out scabrida as the shoots are very similar yet when culms get sun scabridas are black and this is chocolate and leaves slightly wider and lighter.Cooper12 wrote:here is some of mine. Re: Boo-Shoots 2016
F. robusta shoots should be very "hairy" / bristly. Sure looks like 'Rufa' (ed. or 'Scabrida') to me. The leaf & culms sizes should be clear indicators.

Re: Boo-Shoots 2016
Good news Jason, my Intermedia still looks quite dead. I anticipate that they Phyllostachys will wake up even more the next 2 weeks with warm sunny days forecast.

Re: Boo-Shoots 2016
Thanks John that was my fear on my robusta but ill try and give the culm the rub down and take another pic if its grown any this week. The leaves are slightly larger than my rufa but my rufa have been here 3 years almost and this other one just came up from Southern California which may account for some leaf size possibly since it was in a shade house with less light.
Brad yes I'm excited about the intermedia . it had 1 leaf hanging on all winter so I knew it was alive at least

Re: Boo-Shoots 2016
F rufa & F robusta shoots over 15" tall now, seeing signs of life in 3/4 of the pots. Forecast continues to be in the low to mid 70's down to mid 40's. My montane bamboo are purring right now but soon to curse the summer heat.

Re: Boo-Shoots 2016
It's now official, Moso is shooting, and it's on a rampage. Too early to tell about upsize, because they are just barely poking out, but they should be larger, because of relatively warm winter. Photos when they grow larger. Shoots are still red to purple, because I found them under thick layer of mulch I removed to increase soil temperature. It's possible that the largest shoots are still on their way.
Re: Boo-Shoots 2016
My golden is upsizing nicely:

Single culm fall 2015 Shanghai 3 division sizing up - center pot, original culm shy of 3 feet by little finger diameter.
On the flip side 3 years in a pot and finally sizing up Phy primontana
Textillis Gracillis branches
One of those cheap hardware store bareroot roses planted in late Feb, I guess they can work O.K.
