Any ideas why there would be a veriegated shoot coming from my Fargesia fungosa 'chocolate '

My nearly dead seedling also showed a couple of variegated survival shoots. I guess in my case, it might be stress related.

There may be the possibility that a piece of rhizome from another bamboo (maybe something linke pleioblastus fortunei or hibanobambusa tranquillans?) has found its way there.

If not keep an eye out if more shoots with variegated leaves develop - then you may have a more stable mutation and have really lucked out!

Here's how a small shoot in my top killed seedling looks like. I expect everything to go to normal as it starts growing larger shoots.
