I have some large yellow groove rhizomes that are heading where I dont want them too go. I went ahead and cut them out, and now I am wondering if that was such a good idea. My fear is if I leave them till the fall or spring they would get to my neighbors side of the fence. I was amazed at the size of them they were larger in diameter than any of my culms.
I potted up the rhizomes just to see what would happen. From what I have read people usually pot up rhizomes in the spring before they shoot, so I am curious what will happen to these. has anybody had success with rhizomes planted this time of year?
Thanks for your responses

I have potted rhizomes in every month of the year. I am in zone 8 /9-. In the winter you have to be careful not to let them freeze or get to cold in the pot. I have a small semi-heated greenhouse I use in the winter.
This time of the year for me is a good time. I usually have about a 70% success rate. My secret is I cheat and use a growth hormone and this seems to help give it a little kick (I think it helps to develope the roots)
Right now I have 2 green vivax and 2 yellow groove coming up nicely.
One other thing be careful not to let the rhizome dry out , keep it moist at all times till you get it into the dirt or whatever you are using.

Probably not the best time, but you'll get a lot of smaller divisions near the pruned ends of the YG.
We should start a thread to try to figure out what to do with all the unwanted rhizomes we remove.

Use them to scare other folks off ever growing bamboo?!
Seriously, use the rhizomes to propagate more bamboos. Then sell them or use them for exchange - to get more bamboos. Which is exactly what i am doing. Anyone want a P vivax Aureocaulis?

Joe. I would be interested in some rhizomes. Are you located in B.C.
