This species seem rather slow to size up compared to murielae.
Here one of our seedlings planted at a friend's garden.

As for variation more so in culm colours - black, dark purple and some reddish, some with blue farina. Habits vary too - stiffly upright, sprawling and dwarf.

Re: Fargesia nitida new generation
John, can you tell the difference between the Ancepts and McClure seedlings? I mixed mine up.
I have three new gen nitidas, the Anceps, McClure, three or four years old, still at about 2 feet, and another one from seed that started to flower a couple years before that. Its parent plant was a no-name nitida I rescued from a fall nursery sale a while back. It is fairly upright, and just started putting 3 to 4 foot shoots up this summer, big jump in size. None of the ones I have have much in the way of distinctive coloring at this point at this point, perhaps they will develop more character once in ground in shadier spot. I'll be planting them soon.

The 'McClure' and 'Anceps' have been rather slow growing and likely should have been moved into larger pots a year or two ago. In the seedling stage I thought the 'Anceps' group were narrow and tall but now they're hard to tell apart. I'll let you know once they attain some size.
