Tropical Storm/Hurricane Gordon Damage

Post by Ophiuchus »

Hi Folks,

So I got the typical culm break on the new shoots, but this time I had a 2 1/2 yr old Kanapaha that is about 25' tall tip over.

It will be easy enough to tip back upright, but I'm concerned with the least amount of wind I would find it back on the ground again. Of course I could give it a total 10' haircut, but I'm trying to salvage the look of the plant that is in a row of others.

I was thinking of pruning all the culms with branches leaving just this years shoots. The bare canes will have limited wind resistance and maybe I can save this years growth.

I could really use some insight from this forum concerning clumping bamboo rehab. :D

Boonut had this happen to him. He does not post much anymore, but perhaps you could PM him and ask for advice.

I ended up getting the chainsaw out and sawed it off to about 4 foot high and tipped backed into the hole. This really hurt my feelings and hope this is not something I can look forward to in the future.
