So Fred, you're suggesting digging out parts of the plant? I don't know how I'd ever do that if I didn't cut the whole thing down first.

Yes - dig out a 3rd a year. I use a semi sharp spade and usually get most of the area's plants out in one piece. I replant and sell on Craig's list after a couple of months of potting.

Articles I've seen on it suggest leave a horseshoe shape.

I usually eyeball a area that I can dig out and replant. It will include a area from the far edge to the center. Rgds
