I had two groves of Gigantea flower a couple of years ago, then flower again after another year. My experience is that the culms die off after the second flowering. I cut abt 60% of the culms down. This year the remaining culms shot out new leaves , and I just noticed several new (medium large) shoots. How odd is this? Rgds

Fred did they produce any viable seed? I have S brachycladum and it will flower on an older culm but keep going w/o flowers on most of the other culms and shoot normally at the same time. No viable seed though, only flowers.

Fred sent me some seeds. Most were empty, missing the grain or it failed to develop, the grains that did look ok failed to sprout. Perhaps someone else had more luck.

I sent a lot of seeds out to members and it appears none produced seedlings. I have seen seedlings for sale at a couple of bamboo nurseries whose plants had flowered.

How are you holding up in the storm?

Fine here, some wind to hide from on Sunday and about 3 " of rain but over 3 days so really not much in my neighborhood.

Just noticed gigantea seedlings developing in ground. Estimate it took abt a year and 1/2 for the seeds to germinate. RGds
