Help for Ph. ID

Post by Bill Howard »

Has anyone a guess or better to identify this phyllostachys. It has light to dark BROWN culms. All of my searching has turned up nothing. Any observations would be greatly appreciated.
several photos I hope these don't overwhelm you.

I have a few Phyllostachys that have brown culms like that right now. They change color over time from sun exposure and temperature changes. They are different species, so this may just be an attribute of the genus.

Thank you Lance for your loquacious antiphons. I thoroughly relish your astute ascertainments.Image
Bruce I think you may have it. These Phycostachys 'chocolatta' plants were not that color before our last cold snap. Thanks for your observations. I will keep my eye on them and see if the 'brown' goes away when it warms up.

I'm thinking Ph. nidularia, but I only got to see the pics one time before the RedX appeared, and the pics disappeared.
