Re: Fargesia Apricirubens ?
Thanks, Whatever it is, it was sold to me by N.E. Bamboo all those years ago as F dracocephala. I have the old catalog, it says it can get to 16ft high(in how many decades?) and is very heat & sun tolerant. I will be posting some other aquisitions from this source and time period as they shoot, as I wonder now what they really are.

Check out Fargesia robusta as a possible ident for this plant, rather than apicirubens or dracocephala

Re: Fargesia Apricirubens ?
dependable
F. apicirubens from authentic seed ex Max Riedelsheimer in the late 1980's. There are hairs as you can see and I spot them on the culm to the right of the pencil in your first photo, also on the shoots against the paper background.
It may be a long wait to get to 16 feet, our plants are circa 7ft after all those years but this particular one is not as tight a clump as the others and looks as if it hasn't reached its true potential "yet".

This one stayed under 2 feet for longer than that!dependable wrote:Thanks, mine is at about 4 ft after over a decade, Stayed under 2 ft for first 8 years.
I always thought it was borderline here as it did get some damage when in full sun. We moved it about 5-7 years ago and it has been fine ever since but winters have been very easy too.
