Help. I need to name this beauty!

Post by jimsumner »

I have 2 of these clumping bamboos in my yard and just love them however I don't know their name. As you can see by one pic they are not tall - only about 4 ft. without the tassles and about 6 ft. with the tassles. Their leaves are about 12 in. long and 3 in. wide. I think they are gorgeous and would like to find out what they are. Thanks so much. Jim.

I don't think it's bamboo.

Definitely not bamboo, leaves join the stems wrong.

The legal issues that will arise when the undead walk the earth are legion, and addressing them all is well beyond what could reasonably be accomplished in this brief Essay. Indeed, a complete treatment of the tax issues alone would require several volumes.

Jim, beautiful plant indeed. The facts that it has tassels and that the leaves emerge directly from the main stem w/o a secondary stem, indicate that it is not a bamboo and instead 'branches' off into the ornamental grass side of the family.

I'm not sure what it is but look at photos of Arundo donax and Phagramites (sp?) as a starting point. These are a couple of common grasses that people think are bamboo but yours looks different to me perhaps, but a grass none the less.

No idea! Certainly not Arundo, though.
God Bless,
