Is the culm texture rough? Can you easily swipe your hand over the culm in upward direction and texture seems like sandpaper when you run your hand down the culm? Then yes, it's aureosulcata.

Can't tell from that photo, nothing like that coming up in mine yet, that ground cover bamboo though is shooting. Do you recall what Greg had growing in the area?Cooper12 wrote:Brad this was the phyllostachys in the Tonkin Cane division i dug.

Re: any ideas?
Yes I dug it but this particular division was coming up where he used to keep his nursery stock of which a few kinds had been liberated from container drain holes I think. I gave this one to another friend this am but can go back to feel the texture, its definitely a phyllostachys has a yellow culm with green on some of the sulcus . This division was about 25 feet from the mother plant the one I gave you and one I kept where only 5 ft to 8 ft from the mother plant and not in the nursery areaneedmore wrote:I thought you dug it though?

Rough culm texture of all P. aureosulcata clan is most evident on first year culms. Then it wears off a bit, but it never really goes away completely.

Re: any ideas?
I see, so the big node skinny culm in the bottom photo is the yellow with green sulcus and assumed to be same as the shoot?
Greg probably has Spectabilis, SY Kimmei & Castillonis but no other yellow with green sulcus bamboo as I recall?

Re: any ideas?
I am assuming but not sure really that it is the same as I did not see any other bamboo varieties coming up besides the little green pleioblastus which is shooting to but completely different . I think thats all he had for yellow stuff but i will call him to I think and ask him on the same questionneedmore wrote:I see, so the big node skinny culm in the bottom photo is the yellow with green sulcus and assumed to be same as the shoot?

Based on the picture you're providing, I can say with some certainty that this is likely Semiarundinaria yashadake 'Kimmei'.
