'Lai Tsai' purpurata update...
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/ ... lanted.jpg" border="0" alt="planted">
It's in-ground and bracing itself for winter. It was touch & go with these rhizomes for quite awhile, but they are obviously going to survive now. The onions are to keep away evil spirits.

Update: :D

David the rhizomes of viridis Houzeau have transformed from spring into
2 culms 8feet high and 1/4inch diameter culms and a few smaller ones.I just transplanted it from its 3gal container into a 10gal and it fills it up nicely. Tremendous rhizome growth this summer, looks like a beefed up steroid induced B.B. special.

Mike{Thuja} your Harbin inversa just got potted up into a 10gal too since I saw some rhizomes breaking through the 5gal container bottom holes.
It too is nice and beefy now. I used Dyna-grow 2X a month on these and it did the job.. :D

King-

Glad to hear the Houzeau rhizomes did well for you. I had a rhizome of H. also and it also did well, but not as big as yours. What's in Dyna-Grow?

For Dyna-Grow products I use 2 of them. 1 is called Liquid Grow 7-9-5
and the other is Hi-N-Pro 10-5-5. They have micro and macronutrients and I also use the Liquid Silica for the bamboos. I first saw them at Tradewinds Bamboo Catalog some years back. I use these all for my potted plants and they seem to work well. I also use a high quality potting mix. The only problem is I have to repot every season because the plants grow so well

Still no appearance of 'Lai Tsai' this spring. It may need more global warming before it's ready for Wisconsin.

I still have some that haven't shooted yet. Possibly I killed them with my shanigans I did this spring.

Is it shooted or shot? That question has plagued me ever since my bamboo began to shoot. Until I know for sure, I will carefully avoid using the past or past perfect tense.

LKZ5, you're not supposed to put your goat Shenanigans in the nursery.

Time to remember all those who gave their lives...

I'm also seeing shoots now from last year's heteroclada seedlings. I hope they finish shooting before winter arrives.

This year we have had shoots ranging from three weeks early to three weeks late. If the F. nitida is three weeks late then it should start shooting around the Fourth of July.

My Bamboo List.

The legal issues that will arise when the undead walk the earth are legion, and addressing them all is well beyond what could reasonably be accomplished in this brief Essay. Indeed, a complete treatment of the tax issues alone would require several volumes.

Shenanigans
Yes, that is what I was shooting for. Writing is too hard. I'm just going to hope some of you can read my mind and quote me when needed.

Don't feel bad, I had to look "shenanigans" up. I thought maybe it was some special Iowan term for goats.

One thing I'm noticing with heteroclada is that it is spreading out and not shooting near the original plant.
